Mariah presented to the Veterinary Emergency Center in Canton, CT on June 18, 2018. She was severely traumatized as a result of an altercation with a bear. Mariah had multiple punctures and lacerations. She had a broken rib which was associated with a hole in the chest through which we could see a lung lobe. More amazing than anything though was that Mariah’s stomach had gone through a tear in her diaphragm and then through a wound in her body wall. In essence, Mariah’s stomach was now outside of her body. Thanks to the amazing teamwork at VEC, we were able to take her to surgery and put her back together. It has been a month, and Mariah is doing very well. She is a very lucky little girl!
